Our mission is to reduce the US's dependency on foreign oil while keeping the cost of energy low. We are achieving this through the R&D of a third generation of biocrops. These non-food, perennial, poly-culture plants are transforming the lives of struggling rural farmers by allowing them to shift to a profitable agricultural crop. Simply put “We are keeping your energy affordable through biocrops!”

Italy has announced a 2-year plan to build an algae-based power plant

With growing interest in alternative fuels, we'll check in on efforts to create truly green sources of energy -- fuel from algae. The city of Venice, Italy has announced a 2-year plan to build an algae-based power plant that would provide half the city's electric power. We'll talk about that effort, and about a library of algae samples from around the world. The Culture Collection of Algae is finding newfound interest among biofuel researchers.

RPI Entrepreneur Lunch Club

Some MBA students at RPI started an informal lunch for entrepreneurs.  The idea is for like minded people to get together, talk, and sometimes share a bit about what they are working on. The expectation is that... Well...

7 Next-Gen Biofuels to Drive Beyond Gasoline

Forget food crops. Future fuels will come from more practical feedstocks. Plus, each generation will use fewer resources and pack more energy than the last. PM crunches the numbers on alternative fuels for the real world.

Tapping the Earth for home heating and cooling

Sue Butler decided it was time to cut the cord on fossil fuels. So when her aging gas furnace needed replacing, she turned to the Earth for a solution.

She installed a geothermal system--also called a ground-source heat pump, a water-source heat pump, or geo-exchange system--which recently started heating and cooling her Cambridge, Mass. home. Butler said she was motivated by environmental reasons and concerns over carbon monoxide from burning natural gas.

Obama's First 100 Days: Energy Independance

Energy security is the greatest challenge and the greatest opportunity of our time. But lack of action has put the U.S. at risk. Waste coffee grounds offer new source of biodiesel fuel

Researchers in Nevada are reporting that waste coffee grounds can provide a cheap, abundant, and environmentally friendly source of biodiesel fuel for powering cars and trucks. Their study has been published online in the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, a bi-weekly publication.
